(Delhi – Dharamshala – Kareri Lake – Dharamshala – Delhi)
1st Day: Reach Dharamshala
The distance from Delhi to Dharamshala is around 480 km and it will take 9-10 hours to reach Dharamshala. If reached early, explore the market of Dharamshala. For stay, you can choose between Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj. You will have plenty of other options to explore in McLeod Ganj like Bhagsu waterfall, Tsug La Khang (Dalai Lama’s Temple), Namgyal Monastery, etc. You can also explore the local market and try some local food.
2nd Day: Dharamshala – Kareri Lake
After having breakfast, take a cab to Nolli Bridge from Dharamshala/ McLeod Ganj. At the starting point of the trek (Nolli Bridge), you will find a couple of shops for water and snacks.
Start your trek early in the morning to reach the top before noon. Remember, “slow and steady” is the key strategy for steep treks and taking frequent breaks is not advisable.
After covering around 1.5 trek length, you will come across the cafe JHEEL. The midpoint of the trek is known as the “Reyoti”. This point comes just after the metal bridge. You will find many cafes on your way to the top. As the trek trail is alongside the river, you will not feel any difficulty in finding the drinking water.
Optional : Triund trek further extends to Lamdal lake. We recommend it only for experienced trekkers. As the trail is stony and not defined very well, take a trekking guide along with you.
After taking a rest at Reyoti, start your trek to Kareri lake. This stretch is well defined and steep with boulders at some places.
One can easily cover this portion of the trek in 4 hours. Once reached the top, enjoy the beautiful view of Kareri Lake.
One can plan to stay at the Kareri Lake either in the tent or in the Dhabas accommodation. For food, you will mostly get paranthas, dal, rice, and tea here.
3rd Day: Kareri Lake – Dharamshala
After having breakfast, start descending from Kareri Lake towards Nolli Bridge.
With a slow and steady pace, one can cover the return trek in 4-5 hours.
4th Day: Dharamshala – Delhi
Plan your journey back to Delhi on the next day of the trek. The same route to be followed for the return journey as well.
